The People’s Struggle Alliance has written to the state owned Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), demanding fair access to political discussions that are broadcast on the channel.

In a letter addressed to the SLRC Chairperson, the Alliance’s National Executive Committee has stated that they have not been invited to participate in any recent political programmes aired by the state broadcaster since the National People’s Power (NPP) government assumed power.

The letter adds that prior to the NPP assuming office, the channel provided airtime to the People’s Struggle Alliance and its member parties, including the Frontline Socialist Party, on political programmes.

“We find that we are being unfairly targeted as this exclusion appears to be politically motivated,” the letter adds.

The Alliance reminded SLRC that it is a public institution operating on frequencies belonging to the people and stressed that the broadcaster has a responsibility to ensure independence in its political, social, and news programming.

“Our Alliance represents a distinct, alternate political ideology – one that diverges from all other dominant mainstream political forces at present. Also, the social and political issues we prioritise represent oppressed and marginalised communities,” the Alliance said, adding that SLRC is duty-bound to provide media space to alternative political voices.
