56,000 children in Sri Lanka are severely malnourished – UNICEF

the latest UNICEF report shows that about 56,000 children in Sri Lanka are suffering from acute malnutrition, and those children under the age of 05 need urgent treatment. The report states that 2.2 million children in Sri Lanka need humanitarian assistance.
It also states that due to the economic and political crisis in Sri Lanka in 2022, the number of workers going for foreign jobs increased by 286%.
In addition, the UNICEF report indicated that 4.8 million children in Sri Lanka need access to education. In the wake of the economic crisis in Sri Lanka, food insecurity is expected to worsen between October this year and February next year, and 6.2 million people will suffer from moderate food insecurity, and 66,000 will suffer from severe food.
The report shows that two out of every 05 families in Sri Lanka spend 75% of their monthly salary to meet their food needs. As such, those families can allocate very little for education and health.
The report states that due to inflation, most families have spent most of their savings and are facing a severe problem of being unable to meet their basic needs.
