78 people trying to flee country by sea apprehended

Source

It is reported that SL Navy has arrested 78 people who tried to migrate to a foreign country through the Batticaloa sea area in the early morning of yesterday (11th).

The crew and the vessel were taken into custody by the Navy when they came across the multi-day vessel. The Navy detected the vessel suspiciously during a patrol carried out yesterday morning by the Ranavikrama ship. It is reported that 60 men and 14 women were on the vessel then.
The group and the multi-day vessel were brought to the Trincomalee Port and handed over to the Trincomalee Port Police for further legal proceedings. Due to the severe economic crisis in Sri Lanka, more reports of migration to foreign countries recently have been reported.
