The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that electricity tariffs will remain unchanged for the final quarter of 2025.

This was announced by PUCSL Chairman Professor K.L. Chandralal at a media briefing held this morning (Oct. 14).

“The purpose of this conference is to make the official announcement regarding the tariff decision related to the final quarter of the year. The Commission convened yesterday evening and made a unanimous decision. We had to make a very sensible and realistic decision that affects the entire economy and all sectors. Based on all the factors considered and the feedback received from the stakeholder consultation process, the Commission decided not to increase the tariff as suggested by the CEB. We will maintain the current tariff for the next three months,” he said.

The decision follows a proposal by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to increase tariffs by 6.8%, which they said was necessary due to the authorities’ failure to properly implement restructuring programmes. The proposal was then reviewed alongside public feedback gathered through nationwide consultations.
