
The Superior Court in Ottawa has sentenced the Sri Lankan man to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of 06 people, including an entire Sri Lankan family, at a residence in Ottawa in 2024.
The court ruled that the convict will serve life in prison without eligibility for parole for 25 years.
The accused, Febrio De Zoysa, was a 19-year-old international student in Canada at the time of the killings.
He pleaded guilty to 04 counts of first-degree murder, 02 counts of second-degree murder, and one count of attempted murder.
The victims included Darshani Ekanayake (35), her children Inuka (07), Ashwini (04), Ranaya (02), and Kelly Wickramasinghe (02) – all members of the same Sri Lankan family – and Gamini Amarakoon (40), who was also in the house.
Meanwhile, the children’s father – Dhanushka Wickramasinghe, survived the attack with critical injuries.
Delivering the verdict, the judge described the case as one of the most shocking acts of violence ever witnessed in Canada’s capital, stating that it had destroyed 02 families and deeply scarred the community.
In his testimony, the surviving father said the accused stabbed him 06 times, leaving him with severe nerve damage and several missing fingers, and that he continues to endure immense pain and grief after losing his family, home, and livelihood in the tragedy.
