In discussion with a private television channel in Sri Lanka, Professor Yannis Varusakis, a former finance minister of Greece, has warned that the introduction of the IMF as the saviour of Sri Lanka will not help the country to recover from the worst economic crisis it is facing.
The former finance minister of Greece has further pointed out that Sri Lanka should study what the IMF did when his country collapsed economically from 2010 to 2015 and what was done to South Korea in 1998.
He further pointed out that “the IMF is your potential destroyer. But I am not saying that Sri Lanka should not have discussions with them.” It has also been shown that there is an irresponsible creditor behind every irresponsible debtor.
