Aeroflot issue : No problem between Russian & SL – Minister
Minister of Aviation, Ports and Shipping - Nimal Siripala de Silva has said that the government has done nothing wrong with regard to the issue of the Russian Aeroflot flight.
Speaking at a media briefing held today (05) the Minister further stated that the Attorney General is scheduled to make submissions in this regard in court tomorrow (06)
"The government has taken a step now not to give any orders to court. We are committed to the rule of law not to interfere with the court system. The only way in which we can represent this matter to court is within the framework of the law. Within the framework, the Attorney General of this country will go to courts tomorrow (06) Monday and represent these matters. Because as a result of this enjoining order, so many third parties have been affected, not only the parties in the dispute... Within that framework we will plead to court for a reasonable order. that's all we can do as a government. we can't give any other order. We have explained this to the Russian ambassador... We have explained this to the Russian government... So there is no problem between Russia and Sri Lanka. They fully understand our legal procedure. A little while ago I even spoke to our ambassador in Moscow also and briefed her about this situation. Therefore, we are confident we can resolve this question by Monday," the minister said.
