AMCA, PEN Sri Lanka condemn attack on Salman Rushdie


The Asian Media and Cultural Association (AMCA) and the PEN Sri Lanka have condemned the brutal attack on globally acclaimed writer - Salman Rushdie.

"For 33 years, Salman Rushdie has embodied freedom and the fight against obscurantism. He has just been the victim of a cowardly attack by the forces of hatred and barbarism. His fight is our fight; it is universal. Now more than ever, we stand by his side," a joint statement notes.

"This act of violence is appalling. Together with all the people around the world, We are praying for his health and recovery," the statement adds.

The AMCA and Aspiring PEN Sri Lanka also urges "all the global human rights movements to ensure implementation of fundamental freedoms."
