Another dollar pillage
Trade Unions reveal that late fees of $120,000 have to be paid for a crude oil ship brought to Sri Lanka as payment for the consignment has not been paid on time.
A ship carrying 90,000 metric tons of crude oil arrived at the port of Colombo on the 23rd and has not been able to unload it so far. Accordingly, by yesterday (30th), nearly one million dollars in late fees have to be paid.
In the background of various accusations that massive dollar theft is taking place during oil importation to Sri Lanka, a strong doubt has arisen about whether there will be another dollar theft in the form of late fees. Due to the country’s acute foreign exchange crisis, even the payment of foreign loan instalments has been suspended. In such a situation, the foreign exchange is being looted on a large scale using various manoeuvres.
