Approval for 12 hours work in Tamil Nadu, preparations being made to woo multinational companies

Source
In a move to woo multinational companies to set up manufacturing units in Tamil Nadu, the state assembly on Friday passed a bill which has approved increasing the working hours to 12 hours. Right now work was allowed for 8 hours. The move is likely to benefit the information technology, electronics, textile and non-leather footwear sectors. This could also benefit Apple’s contractors such as Foxconn, Pegatron and Wistron. The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly has passed the Factories Amendment Bill 2023 on Friday. Some allies of the ruling DMK, including the Left, walked out of the assembly against it. According to reports, the act provides for 12-hour working hours, 4-day working day and 3-day holiday in a week. Karnataka is the first state in the country to allow women to work in factories for 12-hour shifts, night time, on February 24. !function(f,b,e,v,n,t,s) {if(f.fbq)return;n=f.fbq=function(){n.callMethod? n.callMethod.apply(n,arguments):n.queue.push(arguments)}; if(!f._fbq)f._fbq=n;n.push=n;n.loaded=!0;n.version=’2.0′; n.queue=();t=b.createElement(e);t.async=!0; t.src=v;s=b.getElementsByTagName(e)(0); s.parentNode.insertBefore(t,s)}(window, document,’script’, ‘ fbq(‘init’, ‘550264998751686’); fbq(‘track’, ‘PageView’);
