Attempt to enforce ETCA arbitrarily.
Even though the efforts of several governments to sign a selective trade agreement with India have been defeated by various organizations protesting with the people, India has again exerted pressure to implement it through tactics.
India has officially informed the Sri Lankan authorities that the Economic and Technology Co-operation Agreement (ETCA) should be signed to consider the debt restructuring that Sri Lanka has requested from India.
It is confirmed from Indian reports that the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in India, Milinda Moragoda, has already given full consent to signing the agreement to the Indian government. Reports in the country have further revealed that Milinda Moragoda’s deal was made with the understanding of President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
