BASLo pposes Anti-Terrorism and Online Bills
The Sri Lanka Bar Association has protested to the government and called for the immediate withdrawal of the Anti-Terrorism Bill and the Online Security Bill published by the Gazette.
BASL has taken this decision unanimously in a discussion held on the 23rd, and they have decided that these two bills will severely affect people’s freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
BASL also points out that the bills have been drafted without any consultation with the relevant parties in the field, including the BASL.
It further states that there should have been a meaningful dialogue with the relevant parties before introducing laws that can affect the society.
