Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party's Senior Leader Subramanian Swamy has met former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Colombo.

Media reported that Swamy is in Sri Lanka to attend the 15th International Research Conference of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.

It was reported that a group of Indian lawyers and businessmen were also present at this event.

A tweet sent by Mr. Swamy during the intensified protests at Galle Face Green calling for the resignation of President Rajapaksa, caused controversy in the political arena, earlier this year.

He said, "India must send in the Indian Army to restore Constitutional sanity in Sri Lanka. At present anti Indian foreign forces are taking advantage of people’s anger. This affects India’s national security."
