Boat carrying 35 illegal migrants to Australia intercepted!
The Navy arrested 35 Sri Lankan migrants off the coast of Panadura while attempting to sail to Australia illegally in a dilapidated multi-day trawler.
Among the group were 25 men, four women and six children, Navy spokesman Capt. Indika de Silva said.
The Navy Spokesman said that the Navy had detected a suspicious vessel during search operations off the Panadura coast the day-before-yesterday and upon inspection of the vessel the navy had detected the group of illegal migrants.
The Navy had also detected a fault in the trawler engine and said that the trawler was not at all in a seaworthy condition to make this long journey.
