The Cabinet has approved a proposal to recognise and issue Italian driving licences to eligible Sri Lankans living in Italy, Minister of Transport – Bimal Rathnayake has announced.
In a social media post, Minister Rathnayake said that the relevant Cabinet paper was approved yesterday (Nov. 24) and will take effect immediately.
Previously, Sri Lankans were required to be permanent residents in Italy for at least 04 years to obtain the licence. Under the newly approved agreement, those who have been living in Italy for up to 06 years will now be eligible to apply, the minister notes.
