Casino bosses who escaped from tax net agrees to pay!

It is reported that two of the leading casino owners in the country who had defaulted on tax payments to the government have now agreed to pay part of the tax.

This is in line with the decision taken by the Inland Revenue Department to immediately recover the taxes from those who have failed to pay their taxes as a solution to the current financial crisis in the country.

One of these two casino bosses has defaulted Rs. 575 million and the other Rs. 760 million.

It is reported that the duo had agreed to pay part of the amount due in taxes and the rest to be paid later.

The government has decided to amend the law applicable to gambling and cash betting in Sri Lanka to enable the Inland Revenue Department to take stern action against tax evaders and recover taxes due from casinos.

During the past six months, the government has lost Rs. 515.15 billion due to tax evasion by taxpayers.
