The Center has asked the Maharashtra government to buy Covid vaccines so that there is no shortage in their supply. Due to the sudden increase in the cases of coronavirus, people have started queuing up to get booster doses.
Official sources said that since the vaccine is now available in the market, the state governments can procure it as per their requirement.
Maharashtra is among those states where the maximum number of corona infected are being found every day. According to the data released on Wednesday, 7,830 new corona infected have been found in the country, which is the highest number in the last seven months. Of these, Maharashtra has 1,115 cases. During this, 16 people died, out of which nine occurred in Maharashtra. The death rate in the state has gone up to 1.82 percent.
Sources in the health ministry said that the sharp increase in cases will continue for 10 to 12 days and then the infection will gradually start reducing. But, there is nothing to worry as the number of serious patients admitted to the hospital is less.
Even after the current increase, the central government is not going to make masks mandatory. A senior government official said, “We may be in the final stages of transition. We do not want to spread any kind of panic among the people. We are asking only those people who have a pre-existing disease to take booster dose.
Many states have implemented new Covid rules. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and Haryana have made it mandatory to wear masks.
According to the website of the ministry, 220.66 crore doses of vaccine have been given so far under the anti-coronavirus vaccination campaign. Government sources said that the Center does not have much stock of anti-corona vaccine now.
A Health Ministry official said that there is no need to take the fourth dose of the vaccine. The third dose is also to be taken by those people who are already suffering from any disease or are elderly.
Figures from the Ministry of Health show that only 441 people were vaccinated on Tuesday. The Health Ministry official said that the increase in the number of infected is also due to the increase in the number of tests. For example, 2,14,242 people were screened on Tuesday.
However, there has been no major change in the weekly infection rate as well. It is stable at 3.83 percent and the daily infection rate is also around 3.65 percent.
