Changes to status of LG institutions


The Cabinet has approved changes to the rural councils and urban councils in Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the Cabinet briefing today (09), Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Bandula Gunawardena announced that seven Urban Councils have been elevated to Municipality Council status.

He said the Urban Councils are Kalutara, Vavuniya, Puttalam, Trincomalee, Mannar, Ampara, and Kegalle.

Meanwhile, a decision has also been taken to 03 three Pradeshiya Sabhas as Urban Councils.

Accordingly, the Pradeshiya Sabhas of Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, and Monaragala are to be elevated as Urban Councils.
