China celebrates 73th National Day (Pics)
China celebrated the 73th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, yesterday (01).
Over 210,000 Chinese civilians had gathered to witness the national flag-raising ceremony in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
In addition, China's State Council on Friday held a reception at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to celebrate the event.
The reception was attended by the Communist Party of China (CPC) and state leaders Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji, Han Zheng and Wang Qishan, as well as nearly 500 guests from home and abroad.
Addressing the reception, Premier Li Keqiang said that the CPC will convene its 20th National Congress this year, and stressed the vital significance of the event.
Also on Friday, five Sri Lanka - China friendship groups co-hosted the PRC's 73rd National Day reception in Colombo. The event was co-hosted by the Sri Lanka China Friendship Association, Sri Lanka China Association for Social & Cultural Cooperation, Sri Lanka China Society, Sri Lanka China Journalists Forum and Sri Lanka China Buddhist Friendship Association.
To mark the occasion, Chinese ambassador in Sri Lanka - Qi Zhenhong has said, "Under the strong leadership of CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as the core, we have overcome adverse effects brought by complexed international challenges sporadic outbreaks of COVID-19 pandemic and unpredictable earthquakes, floods and droughts, and China’s economy has maintained a stabilized and increasing momentum with much potential to be released."
"In two weeks, the Communist Party of China will commence her 20th National Congress, which has a great significance at current crucial moment. It has gained highest attention from the international society including Sri Lanka, not only because China embarks a new journey toward the second centenary goal of fully building a modern socialist country, but also for its positive influence on China’s relation with the world. The journey has begun! On the new starting point, let’s work together for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and contribute to the China-Sri Lanka strategic cooperative partnership featuring sincere mutual assistance and ever-lasting friendship!," he added.
Addressing the event, President of the Sri Lanka China Journalists Forum - Mr. Nalin Aponso said that China has proved to be a true friend, not just by empty words but by deeds.
He also emphasised the importance of reporting the truth, ethical journalism and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of journalists.
"The responsibilities of reporting truth and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of journalists, as well as self-discipline and professional ethics, have come under threat for various reasons. I don't need to explain to you the ridiculousness and harmfulness of fake news. We all have experienced the pitiful nature of them. Ethical journalism always seeks to ensure the free exchange of accurate, fair and comprehensive information. An ethical journalist acts with integrity. That is the primary objective of our forum. Promoting ethical journalism for the great good of humanity is our goal," he said.
