Dhaniz Ali gets 14-day imprisonment
Well known activist Dhaniz Ali has been sentenced to a 14-days imprisonment for using a mobile phone while in remand custody at the Magazine Prison.
Ali, who had stormed into the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation on July 13, was arrested later last month and held in remand custody. He faces charges including levelling threats via national TV, disrupting broadcasting operations and damaging public property.
Accordingly, he was produced before a Prison Tribunal over the possession of prohibited item inside the cell.
The spokesman said the suspect pleaded guilty to the charge before the Colombo Additional District Judge and was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment and transferred to Welikada Prison.
