‘Anidda’ newspaper (August 20) has revealed in its lead news that all the shares owned by the treasury and other government agencies in Sri Lanka Telecom have been secretly sold.
Accordingly, the Ranil-flower bud government has carr ied out the related activities to sell all the shares owned by the treasury and the shares of the Sri Lanka Telecom Company which had been held by the employees’ welfare fund, the employees’ trust fund, state banks and other government institutions.
The brokers in selling the shares have pointed out that the interest that can be obtained by depositing the income from the sale of those shares in a fixed bank account is much higher than the current profit from the telecom company. The discussion regarding this was held on August 16 at Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena’s office, and it has been confirmed that the sale of all the shares the telecom company owned by the government will be carried out with the full patronage of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
