Figures reveal horrors of food insecurity

Source

The latest statistics about the country’s national products have confirmed the international warnings that the country’s food shortage will be a terrible state.
According to the figures presented by the Population and Statistics Department for the second quarter of this year, domestic food production has collapsed severely. Compared to the second quarter of last year, cereal production fell by 32.3%, paddy production by 15.6% and vegetable production by 13.2%. Apart from that, the collapse of animal products has been 13.6%, and the collapse of fishery products has been 15.3%.
As such, the collapse of domestic food production in Sri Lanka has affected inflation. Due to the foreign exchange crisis, the shortage of food imported from foreign countries has left the country in a dire situation of not being able to meet its food needs.
