GPS to track Sri Lankan fish fleet

The Albanese government will provide GPS trackers to the Sri Lankan authorities to monitor fishing boats used by people smugglers to bring asylum seekers to Australia.

Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil announced the move after a visit to meet Sri Lankan authorities.

The system will help fishermen confirm their catches were legitimately caught – while ensuring criminal syndicates did not use their boats.
