Source
Tania Abeysundara – Chairman of Sri Lanka United National Businesses Alliance (SLUNBA) has revealed that despite the government stating that it will get rid of the economic crisis after receiving the first loan instalment from the IMF, there is a danger of one million jobs being lost. The SLUNBA discloses these facts against the backdrop that the IMF has officially disclosed the conditions imposed on Sri Lanka, but the side effects have been concealed. ‘Lankadeepa’ newspaper on April 02 indicated the relevant facts by allocating nearly a page under the headline “Ten lakh jobs are in danger”. Currently, the government presents various data to show that the country’s economy is growing, and it is special that these hidden facts have been revealed. Speaking to ‘Lankadeepa’ she says “Currently, the local industrialists have yet to receive the advantage of the IMF loan and the strengthening of the rupee against the dollar. The reason they point out is that although the economic measures taken by the government are popular, it has led to the collapse of their industries. The president of the SLUNBA points out that local entrepreneurs do not get the benefit of the fact that the dollar has weakened or that the rupee has strengthened even a little. This government is not feeling the economy. Government talks are good for people who don’t know about the economy. She has also pointed out that the small and medium businessmen have not been able to face the coming festive season. 0 Comments
