Image magnified before Parliament on fertiliser does not exist: Opposition Leader
The image created by the government ministers and members of Parliament on the farmers' requirements, including fertiliser, being complete is but a lie, as the farmers on the ground level are suffering without fertiliser, said Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, on his visit to Meetiyagoda, Ambalangoda to meet the cinnamon farmers living in the area today (14), in another phase of the Govi Hadagesma (Pulse of the Farmer) initiative undertaken by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) in addressing the hassles faced by the farming communities of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka, which held a reputation as the best producer of cinnamon in the world, is now under a serious threat due to the government's arbitrary actions, the Opposition Leader alleged, adding that the cinnamon farmer is unable to reap the benefits of cinnamon cultivation due the absence of essential fertiliser.
Speaking to the Opposition Leader, the cinnamon farmers revealed that Sri Lanka, which held a reputation as one of the world's leading suppliers of quality cinnamon, is now in dire straits. The farmer is in a difficult situation due to the government's policy of banning fertiliser, they grieved.
Former Minister Gayantha Karunatilake, former MPs Bandula Lal Bandarigoda, Vijayapala Hettiarachchi and other public representatives of the SJB were present in the occasion. They were accompanied by the cinnamon farmers living in the area.
