A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka today (23) and they will hold discussions with the Sri Lankan officials from tomorrow (24).

Meanwhile, Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe said Sri Lanka will be able to obtain the expected loan facility from the IMF by the end of this year.

In an interview with Bloomberg, the Governor said that an office-level agreement is expected to be reached with the IMF on an overall macroeconomic policy framework for the next three to four years.

Dr. Weerasinghe pointed out that the loan amount to be obtained will be decided depending on the agreement of all external creditors on debt management strategy of the Government of Sri Lanka and the manner in which the negotiations are being held.

Sri Lanka is expecting to obtain a loan amount of about USD 3 billion from the IMF.
