Independent MPs to skip SLPP MPs' meeting!

It is reported that many independent members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have decided to boycott the meeting of the party MP group to be held today (26) under the leadership of President Ranil Wickremasinghe and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

It is said that 16 MPs including Dullas Alahapperuma and G.L. Peiris had decided to boycott the meeting yesterday.

It is said that members of the ten political parties led by MP Wimal Weerawansa have also decided to boycott this meeting.

Although the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has decided the same, some members have decided otherwise, reports add.

In the meantime, it is reported that 10 independent MPs along with Lalith Ellawala and Udayana Kiridigoda have decided to participate in the parliamentary group meeting.

However, chief government whip - Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga has told the media that all MPs of the ruling party have been informed to attend the meeting.

If the MPs decide to become independent without participating in the meeting, they should inform the Speaker about it, he has added.

However, the ruling party office of the parliament has said that time allocations for parliamentary debates will be decided on their decision to remain in the government or to become independent.
