The brutal attack on peaceful protesters in Galle Face early this morning (22nd) has attracted the attention of all leading international media and the BBC Sinhala website has published a detailed report on it.

Early today (22nd), the security forces brutally attacked the protesters who were staying at the Colombo Fort Presidential Secretariat and the Gota Go village protest ground in Galle Face.
A BBC video journalist was assaulted by the army and one of the soldiers took away his phone and deleted the footage he had recorded.
Jerin Samuel of the BBC Tamil Service who was giving live footage from there; Live footage shows them repeatedly claiming to be BBC journalists and being assaulted by military personnel.
However, media organizations and organizations say that several other journalists have been subjected to military attacks.
It was earlier reported that a large number of security personnel are coming towards the mouth of Galle this morning.
A few hours before the protestors left the President’s office, hundreds of army and air force and police commandos surrounded the protest camp set up around the President’s office and started pulling down tents.
Today (July 22) despite the official notification that the protesters will leave the presidential secretariat premises at 2 pm, the new president Ranil Wickremesinghe attacked the protesters and removed them from the respective place before 24 hours passed. Lawyers and civic activists have strongly questioned the effort.
A group of people including lawyer Nuwan Bopage and Anuranga Shalika, who was previously disabled due to the attack on May 09, have been brutally attacked and taken to the Maradana police station. A protester who spoke to BBC Sinhala from there said the brutes destroyed many places including the information technology center, the disabled warriors’ tent, the visually impaired tent located in the Gota Go village struggle ground. However, at present, no journalist is allowed to enter this area, and the security forces have informed the journalists that they have received direct orders for that.
