JSASL too goes to court against Sanath Nishantha
The Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka (JSASL) has filed a petition before the Court of Appeal requesting that a hearing be held, and State Minister Sanath Nishantha be punished as he has insulted the court. Through the petition, the Judicial Service Union has pointed out that the Minister of State has insulted the court through a critical statement made on August 23 about the process of granting bail to the accused involved in the struggle.
The petition states that through his statement, the Minister of State has challenged the authority of the Magistrates regarding the granting of bail to the ‘Aragalaya’ activists, and by doing so, he has undermined the dignity of the judiciary and has committed an offence under Article 105(3) of the Constitution.
The Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka (JSASL) is the only organization representing all the District Judges and Magistrates in Sri Lanka. It started as a welfare association to uplift its members’ personal and professional facilities.
