LPL 2022 player draft concludes
The players’ draft for Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2022 concluded yesterday in which T20 specialists like Carlos Brathwaite, Dwaine Pretorius and Imad Wasim emerged as the highest-priced international players.
The draft consisted of 20 rounds, covering several player categories, such as International Ruby, International Sapphire, International Diamond ‘A’ and ‘B’ and International Platinum.
Former West Indies T20I captain Brathwaite will be joining the newly empowered Kandy Warriors.
While South Africa all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius who played for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2022 was picked up by Colombo Stars. Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim will be playing for Galle Gladiators.
A total of 353 players were featured in the LPL 2022 draft, with 180 overseas and 173 Sri Lankan players lined up.
The teams Colombo Stars, Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, Kandy Falcons, and Dambulla Giants picked up players under several categories.
The ‘ Sri Lankan Ruby’ players had a value of USD 60000 and included notable local players Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Danushka Gunathilaka, Thisara Perera and Wanindu Hasaranga.
It is notable that star T20 batter Pathum Nissanka was not picked during the draft.
However the young and in-form U-19 skiper Dunith Wellalage who performed well in the Sri Lanka series against Australia has been Pre-Drafted by Jaffna Kings.(newsradio.lk)
