New appointment system for Schengen visa applications

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (Nov. 04) has ordered the release on bail of 04 former officials of the Sri Lanka Fisheries Corporation, pending further investigations.

The ex-officials of the Fisheries Corporation that were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) earlier today (Nov. 04) were : 

  • Chairman of the Sri Lanka Fisheries Corporation – Lalith Daulagala
  • Former Managing Director – Chandana Krishantha
  • Supplies Manager – Vijith Pushpakumara
  • Operations Manager (Acting Finance Manager) – Anura Chandrasena Bandara

The arrests relate to the 2020 purchase of a high-capacity fish vacuum-packing machine for the Fisheries Corporation, with a capacity to pack 2,000 kg of fish per hour.

According to the CIABOC, the machine had been procured without necessity and outside proper procedures, causing a financial loss of Rs. 5.85 million to the state.
