A political appointment has been made to the position of Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. Chaminda Kularatne, a person outside the public service who had worked as an additional secretary to Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickramasinghe, has been given that position.
Until now, an official who had come up in the public service was appointed to that position. But Chaminda Kularatne had a political appointment as the chief organizing secretary of the ruling party and had worked under Gotabaya Rajapaksa as an additional secretary when he was the President. He has also worked as an additional secretary to Ranil Wickremesinghe after Gotabaya was chased away from the presidency.
In addition to this, the position of Secretary General of the Parliament is also an officer who had come from the government service and directly related to party politics. Kushani Anusha Rohanadeera, the wife of Harigrupta Senadheera, who was Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s legal advisor, has been appointed Secretary General of the Parliament.
As such, these appointments have been made even though the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament worked directly with the Rajapaksas and Ranil Wickramasinghe. It is also revealed that recruitment interviews have been conducted by making provision for the appointment of Chaminda Kularatne as the Deputy General Secretary.
