Anura Dissanayake, the leader of the National People’s Power (NPP), says that there is a discussion about some revival of the economy these days and the country has received a loan. He says that the prices of some goods will be reduced.
“People are thinking that the economy of our country is heading in a positive direction. But, the people of our country were looking at this auspicious direction of this economy only today. Even today, the people of our country had expectations. The people of our country were seeing a good dream of the economy for a long time. They dreamed about the development of the economy. The ruling groups that came to power from time to time made various creations for those dreams in the heads of the people. Due to the collapse of the economic policies followed from 1970 to 1977, rice queues, chili queues and many other queues were created in our country.
JR Jayawardene declared at 77 that Sri Lanka would become a Singapore if he was given power. Therefore, J.R. said about a state with big buildings, a disciplined country, wide roads, jobs for the youth, increase in the country’s production, a country with streamlined port, air service, banking service would be created. That dream was created in the heads of the people. But JR who dreamed is now dead. In 2022, Singapore’s annual economy will be worth $424 billion. Annual production in Sri Lanka is 65 billion dollars. Singapore’s per capita income is $79,500. But according to Sri Lanka’s national product last year, the per capita income was a little less than 3000 dollars.
In 1994, Chandrika Kumaratunga said that this open economy brought great destruction to our country. It was also said that factories and manufacturing establishments started collapsing. She also said that there was a great decline in politics, crime, corruption was rampant. She stated that the open economy is inhumane, and it needs to be given a humane face. People thought that now a good situation would be created in the country. Because of Candrika, there will be a huge growth in the economy, and an advanced factory system will be started using the technology. People believed that a humanitarian economy would be built. They had good dreams about it. But due to Chandrika’s incompetent rule, the results were extremely bitter and became inhuman.
Back in 2005, Mahinda Rajapaksa presented another programme saying that he would take the country forward by saying ‘Rata Pereta’ (Country Forward). But that dream collapsed due to a mountain of debt and a corrupt ring of mrauders. Again the same Mahinda said in 2010 that Sri Lanka will become a wonderful country in Asia. Mahinda’s campaign fleet pointed out a good future for the people.
The people forgot the immediate experience and moved on with that good future dream. To end it, to get rid of that dream, the people had to hang Mahinda, the dreamer, from a top rail of a window.
After that, Ranil Wickramasinghe together with Maithri showed the people the dream of ‘good governance’. He came promising the people that he will build this country with good governance. The people kept their faith through that auspicious dream. Ranil Wickramasinghe made this country the country with the largest stock of debt obtained by a single government in history thanks to the good dreams of the people.
By selling international sovereign bonds for eight years from 2007 to 2015, Mahinda Rajapaksa had borrowed 3.5 billion dollars. But Ranil Wickramasinghe proved that the Ranil-Maitree coalition is the government with the largest debt stock obtained by azSri Lankan government by obtaining 12 billion dollars and 50 million dollars in the period of 04 years from 2015 to 2019. National resources started to be sold. The people understood that good governance is also a mirage. The people woke up from that day dream.
After that, Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that he will create a country that uses the most advanced tools. The people were given the dream of artificial intelligence administration and management in a new country. People believed in that auspicious dream. But in the end, China’s waste fertilizers hit Sri Lanka’s rice paddies and destroyed the dream bubble of the people.
Now once again this coalition government has started showing dreams to the people. People have started seeing a new dream, a good dream. This government reached an agreement with the International Monetary Fund last March. The government is launching a big media campaign and sowing dreams that the only way to recover this country is to take this loan.
Don’t forget this is a loan and it is a scam.
The people have now understood that there is no way to make their dreams come true on this path that started from J. R.. People are more aware about this country and the world than before. The rulers who show the ‘loan’ dream to the people are also competing to share who won this loan agreement.
It is declared from that side that Basil Rajapaksa is the owner of the trophy of this agreement. Others say that because of Ranil Wickramasinghe’s unique abilities, he was able to make this country a debtor. These rulers are fighting for the ownership of the cup of getting a loan for the country. In this fight, they are trying to show the people of the country a dream by force, that borrowing is the only way to go, which is a blatant lie to mislead the masses” states MP Anura Dissanayake.
