Prasanna's portfolio in danger due to son's thuggery! (CCTV footage)
It has now been revealed that State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera's son Thenuka and the others have used a vehicle registered under the State Ministry's secretary to attack two school students near a private tuition class in Kiribathgoda.
Thenuka and others arrived at the location of attack in a black Toyota 141 type car bearing the number plate WP KX 8472.
The State Minister has also admitted that the car in question was used by those who launched the attack.
Political sources said that Mr.Ranaweera is under intense pressure from the members of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna to resign from the state ministerial portfolio similar to how Arundika Fernando resigned until investigations were carried out in relation to the incident in which the students of Ragama Medical Faculty were attacked by Mr.Fernando's son and a group of people.
State Minister Ranaweera's son and his friends brutally attacked the two school students on September 26.
Five people including Thenuka were arrested by the police.
The two students who were injured in the attack were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and the Kiribathgoda Hospital for treatment and have been discharged.
The two 17-year-old students are residents of Makola and Kelaniya.
During the questioning, the suspects revealed that one of the two students had given a love letter to the girlfriend of Thenuka's friend.
Meanwhile, State Minister Ranaweera said he was informed by the Kiribathgoda Police that his son was involved in an attack while on his way to a class.
"I have nothing to do with this. Both parties have attacked each other. I do not approve of this. I want my son to be a good citizen, not a bully. As a father, I strongly reprimanded my son and did what I needed to do. I also apologised to the parents of the students. That vehicle is one of the government vehicles given to me and it has been used by my son. I apologize to the government and the people over this," he said.
The five arrested suspects have been released on police bail and the case will be forwarded to the conciliation board, the Kiribathgoda Police said.
