Ranil begins to squash democracy
With Ranil Wickremesinghe being sworn in as President today (21) in the morning, a decision has been taken to dissolve Parliament.
This decision has been informed to the party leaders by now. While Sri Lanka is in severe economic and political collapse, Parliament, the foremost place where the opinion of the people’s representatives can be constitutionally expressed, will thus be disabled.
When the term is adjourned, everything that has been included in the agenda ends and all the committees, including the COPE, are abolished. The COPE was conducting investigations with some independence regarding a large amount of fraud and corruption committed during the ousted Rajapaksa regime. All of that will be cancelled because of the dissolution.
