Ranil internationally condemned for attacking peaceful, unarmed protesters
Various countries and organisations in the world have strongly condemned Ranil Wickramasinghe just two days after being elected as President by Parliament.
The main reason for this condemnation was the brutal attack on the peaceful protest at the Galle Face in the early hours of the 21st. Yesterday (23rd), there was a rally in New Delhi with the participation of a large number of people. A letter was also handed over to the office of the United Nations in New Delhi condemning the Galle-Face attack.
In addition, Human Rights Watch, the United Nations Human Rights Commission and the European Union condemned the attack by Ranil Wickremesinghe. Many countries, including the US State Department, Britain and Canada, have also condemned it.
Meanwhile, even though 03 days have passed since Ranil Wickremesinghe assumed the presidency, it is special that only China has offered diplomatic greetings.
“Indian citizens who had gathered to hand over a memorandum to the UN Human Rights Commission demanding intervention against police brutality against Sri Lankan protesters were assaulted by the Delhi Police. Protesters were kicked and women activists were beaten.”
