Ranil’s secret cabinet paper reversed
The President’s Media Division has announced that the cabinet paper which Ranil Wickramasinghe is said to have presented to the cabinet yesterday (10) on downgrading Sri Lanka from a middle-income country to a low-income country and was approved by the cabinet has been later withdrawn.
The decision that Ranil Wickremesinghe submitted such a cabinet paper or that the cabinet passed such a document was not mentioned in the official notification. However, these facts were revealed at the press conference held today by Bandula Gunawardena at the Government Information Department to announce cabinet decisions.
He disclosed that according to the international classification, the proposal to classify Sri Lanka from a middle-income country to a low-income country received the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers. He further revealed that when taking loans from various organizations worldwide, the opportunity to get loans at concessional interest is once again available due to the downgrading.
Nevertheless, the announcement issued by the Presidential Media Division correcting this statement, Sri Lanka has once again been promoted to the category of middle-income countries.
