The voting on the proposal to remove Janaka Ratnayake from the position of chairman of the Public Utility Commission was held a few moments ago, and 123 votes were cast in favour of the proposal. In contrast, Only 77 votes were received against it. Accordingly, the relevant proposal has been passed with 46 votes. All the MPs of the NPP and most of the MPs from Samagi Jana Balawega, the Freedom People’s Sabha, the Uttara Lanka Coalition and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party voted against the resolution. Members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (Pohottu Party) voted for the resolution. In particular, certain MPs who represented the opposition, namely Kumara Welgama, ALM Ataullah, Duminda Dissanayake, Vadivel Suresh, John Seneviratne, Nimal Lanza, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and AHM Fawzi voted in favour of this resolution. Member of Parliament Ali Sabri Rahim, who was arrested at Katunayake Airport yesterday (24th) in connection with gold smuggling, had also come to vote, and interestingly, he voted against this resolution.
