Rice imports from India face issues; no flour

Importers say India's decision to restrict rice exports will have an impact on importing rice from India. The Indian government has also decided to impose a  20% tax on each kilogramme of rice being exported.

Importers also warn of an upcoming shortage of wheat flour, even though the Minister of Trade stated that there is ample stock.

India has stopped the export of wheat flour.

Around 300 bakeries have closed operations due to the wheat flour shortage.

Sri Lanka is now importing wheat flour from Turkey and Dubai. These consignments will only reach the country by the end of the month.
