A proposal submitted by the Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister to call international tenders to purchase a tugboat for the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has been approved by the Cabinet.

Speaking at the Cabinet press briefing today, Mass Media Minister Bandula Gunawardana said that there is a need for more equipment with the expansion of port activities.

He said the SLPA already has seven tugs in sound condition and a new 80-tonne bollard pull Twin Azimuth Stern Drive style tug will be purchased for future use.
