Sri Lanka in USD  97 Bn debt

It has been revealed that the Sri Lankan government was in debt of USD 97 Bn by 31 December 2021. 

 The special audit report by France-based Lazard, a financial services firm appointed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka to assist in debt restructuring, showed that Sri Lanka was in foreign debt of USD 47 Bn by 31 December 2021.  

Sri Lanka was also in local debt of USD 50 Bn. 

The amounts stated would be higher now as the Sri Lanka rupee was LKR 203 against the USD when the audit took place 31.12.2021. 


The current exchange rate is  LKR 355 for 1 USD.
