A few showers may occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Northern, and North-western provinces today (Oct. 29), the Department of Meteorology said.
The Department has issued an advisory for strong winds in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces, and the Trincomalee and Batticaloa Districts, effective for the 24 hours ending at 11.00 a.m. today.
According to the Department, strong winds of about 50-60 kmph are expected in the said areas due to the Cyclonic Storm ‘Montha’ in the Northeast of Sri Lanka in the Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Montha made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast yesterday (Oct. 28).
Accordingly, the fishermen and naval personnel have been advised to refrain from engaging in activities in both shallow and deep sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Batticaloa via Trincomalee until further notice.
The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by strong winds.
