Thai PM says former President would be allowed to stay in Thailand!
Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has announced that former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will stay in Thailand temporarily until he finds permanent refuge in another country.
Meanwhile, foreign sources say that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who is currently in Singapore, is scheduled to leave for Thailand today (11).
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand had stated that former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had been granted permission to stay in Thailand based on a request he had made to the Thai government.
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who fled Sri Lanka to the Maldives left for Singapore on the 14th of July and the Singaporean authorities had permitted him to stay there until now.
Accordingly, Reuters news service reported that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa would be leaving for Thailand today.
Issuing a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand stated that in consideration of the long-term relationship between the two countries, former president Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was granted permission to visit Thailand.
