The middle class has also become poor today – Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith
Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith says that if there was any middle class in Sri Lanka, that middle class has fallen into the category of the poor today.
The Cardinals said this during a ceremony held yesterday (26th) at Church of Sacred Heart at Ragama.
He said, “If there was any middle class in Sri Lanka, today that middle class has fallen into the poor class.
Even if big highways are built to show your greatness to the world, big towers, and big airports to show off to the world, not a single plane will stop, and many people in Sri Lanka are living without food Today.
Today they are getting ready to develop the tourism business. Make Colombo look like a paradise for Christmas. However, there is nothing to eat, but it is a paradise where Leaders are happy and have plenty of food.. Sri Lanka is a country that has gone to beg from all the countries of the world. Big shows but empty pockets.
Several of my reverend fathers told me that children coming to Sunday school should be fed first or they would faint. How can they learn without food? Nothing has happened to them. A sky-high tower was built and commission was taken from the project. It is not known where that money went. It is not possible to say that Sri Lanka is developed because of the skyscrapers.
We request the Election Commission to hold the local council elections due in March next year. It is our right. Then, we can answer this government.”
