Transport Ministry to provide relief package to private bus owners
The Transport Ministry has planned to provide a relief package to private bus owners to prevent the collapse of the private bus industry. Accordingly, each bus will be receiving a relief grant of Rs. 100,000.
About 20,000 provincial and inter-provincial buses are operational throughout Sri Lanka, but the Covid-19 pandemic obstructed the operations driving the bus owners to suffer severe difficulties.
The National Transports Services Commission pointed out that six private companies are already prepared to offer discounts on the purchase of tires, batteries, lubricants and spare parts through the relief package provided by the Ministry.
The relief package has already been distributed to bus owners in several districts, including Ratnapura.
