U.N. Permanent Resident Agent meets NPP leaders
A meeting between the Permanent Resident Representative of the United Nations, Mr. Marc-Andre Franch, and the National People’s Power leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, took place yesterday (29th) morning at the JVP head office.
Mr Edward, Development Adviser and Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Sri Lanka Office, and Bimal Ratnayake, National Executive Member of the NPP, were also present.
The discussion focused on the current economic crisis and political situation in Sri Lanka. NPP Leader Anura Dissanayake, who pointed out that the people are being further oppressed due to the failure of the government’s economic goals, said that the government is taking away the people’s democratic rights by not holding elections. The NPP representatives pointed out that the government is acting undemocratically by threatening to summon the judges who ordered the elections to the Parliament’s Privileges Committee and suppressing people’s protests.
