Wheat flour imports from India suspended!
The import of wheat flour from India has been suspended due to India banning wheat flour exports, the importers have informed the Trade Ministry.
India has suspended wheat flour imports due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Therefore, the Indian Government has decided to preserve wheat flour produced in the country as a safety reserve.
Sri Lanka used to import wheat flour from India and it was done immediately preserving time.
Currently, it is possible to import wheat flour only from Türkiye.
However, the importers have informed the Trade Ministry that it will take about two months to receive wheat flour once an order is placed.
A special discussion in this regard was held between Trade Minister Nalin Fernando and wheat flour importers at the ministry yesterday (29).
However, neither the ministry nor the minister has taken steps to inform the people in this regard so far.
