“The Easter attack has caused maximum destruction and this political culture has become more powerful and has brought the country into a state of bankruptcy where it does not pay its debts. This destruction happened to Sri Lanka because of the existing political culture. We believe it should be changed, and we all support the National People’s Power.” said Retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha. He emphasized this while addressing the District Conference of the Retired Armed Forces Collective currently being held in Kurunegala. He said, “There are more people here than the May Day meetings held by the so-called main parties. Where ever the NPP is, there are people. Now there is such a reality. Less than a year ago, a few people started the Retired Armed Forces Group. However, now tens of thousands have gathered. A large number of people are gathering daily. All these people who are present have shown that they will not be shaken by the obstacles created when we continue to work like this. We are bound to the National People’s Power after seeing the destruction done to this country. National People’s Power is the only platform we have to talk about it. We don’t do politics by illegally going to army camps just because we have formed such a collective. All of us joined the respective forces decades ago with a certain determination in mind. We joined the army to do something good for the country, and we did that good thing. During active service, politics was not in our minds. We fulfilled the responsibility assigned to us very successfully. We even saw the politics that made the war last so long. We did not pay attention to any of that. The JVP gave an excellent boost to the then-existing government to win the war and create peace. No matter what anyone says, it must be said that the JVP created the necessary environment to end the war by appointing that government in 2005. After the end of the war, we all wanted to move the country on a path of development. Our people changed governments, the leaders were changed, but it did not work. The 2019 Easter attack caused maximum destruction and this political culture became even stronger and the country became bankrupt. This destruction happened to Sri Lanka because of the existing political culture. That primitive traditional political culture still drags on. We believe it should be changed, and we all support the National People’s Power.”
