Sri Lanka’s year-on-year inflation, measured by the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), accelerated to 6.5% in June 2026, up from 5.4% in May, according to the latest data released by the Department of Census and Statistics.
The Department reported that food inflation increased to 3.3% in June from 1.5% recorded in the previous month, while non-food inflation rose to 9.3% from 8.6%.
The NCPI increased to 222.3 index points in June, compared with 218.8 points in May, representing a 1.6% month-on-month increase in the overall price level.
Food items accounted for 1.11 percentage points of the monthly increase, while non-food items contributed 0.49 percentage points, the Department said.
Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes volatile food, energy and transport prices, stood at 5.0% year-on-year in June, with a 0.8% monthly increase.
According to the Department of Census and Statistics, the general price level in June 2026 was 122.3% higher than the 2021 base year.
The next National Consumer Price Index for July 2026 is scheduled to be released on August 21, 2026.
