BOI’s Missing 2025 Annual Report

Source

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka has still not updated its official website with the 2025 Annual Report, despite the country being well into the eighth month of 2026, raising fresh questions about transparency in the country’s investment climate.

The 2025 investment figures were highly contested in Parliament earlier this year, with opposition politicians, policy experts, and concerned citizens questioning the government’s claims on foreign direct investment performance. The BOI’s failure to publish audited annual data has only fuelled further scepticism.

The delay is particularly striking given that the first-half performance figures for 2026 have also not been disclosed to the public. With seven months of the year already behind, stakeholders remain in the dark about whether Sri Lanka is attracting meaningful investment or facing a continued decline.

LNW learns that several vociferous opposition politicians are preparing to raise the matter in coming days. They are expected to demand that the BOI release both the 2025 Annual Report and the first-half 2026 figures without further delay.

The delay in publishing investment data comes at a critical time for Sri Lanka’s economic recovery, with the government repeatedly highlighting FDI as a cornerstone of its growth strategy. Without verified data, however, such claims remain difficult to assess.
